Moved by Haiti. Moving for Orphans.
Do you desire to adopt from Haiti?
According to many sources, right now is not the time to adopt from Haiti. Read articles here, here, and here from reliable sources on why it is best to wait.
So what can you do given your heart is burdened for the painful situation of these Haitian children? Please consider that God is using this tragic situation to put adoption on your heart. Perhaps God is using the vivid images from the media of these helpless children to move your heart towards adoption. You have known that being an orphan is not ideal, but now it is made real. You see these children in the streets, helpless, alone, no one to take care of them and you feel compelled to do something.
Please for a moment consider the estimated 144 million orphans all over the world. It may not be possible to adopt from Haiti at this moment, but there are millions of children around the world in need of parents. Must these children need to have been orphaned by a tragedy to be more adoptable? If they are orphans, they were orphaned by a tragedy. It is always a tragedy when a child does not have loving parents.
Just because you do not currently see these children’s faces in the media does not make their pain less real, and ultimately does not mean they have less need for godly, loving parents. Think of these children; many of them on the streets or in institutions with no one to tuck them in at night, no one to give them medicine when they are sick, no one to personally teach them about Jesus. God commands us to care for these orphans. Please obey this command by considering taking an orphan into your home or providing financially for someone who can.
